Carolina Rivers of Art, a consortium of 25 local and regional artists, is exhibiting for the first time this market at 200 North Hamilton, Space 312.
The group of artists includes well-known Seagrove, N.C.-based potters Ben Owen III and Will McCanless.
Others include Jody Walker, a local fused glass artist, who has also shown at the Smithsonian and has a piece in the Corning Glass Museum. The rest of the artists are an eclectic group that include a local sculptors, painters, fiber artists and jewelers, among others.
“I have always loved the furniture market,” said Rebecca Matamoros, president of Carolina Rivers. “To me, it is more than business. It is an international cultural exchange. However, it occurred to me that somehow we have forgotten that the artists and artisans in our region are more than capable of producing beautiful art that equals or surpasses imports. The local art market is currently bit dry, and I thought that by introducing local artists to the international market might give them another venue for their work.”
