Buick representatives hosted a press luncheon at 100 High restaurant on Sunday afternoon to provide an informal opportunity to connect with Alexandra Dymowska and Magdalena Kokoszynsks, color and trim experts in General Motors’ advanced design studio.
After the luncheon Dymowska and Kokoszynsks showed off the new 2010 Buick LaCrosse sedan, which uses premium materials, cool ambient lighting and luxurious inspirations found in home design.
The discussion during the luncheon centered on the topic of the similarities and differences of the automotive and home furnishings industry. “We are here to really scope out what is going on in the furniture industry,” Dymowska said. “We are finding much more similarities than differences and looking into ways to cross-pollinate. I really felt like a kid in a candy story yesterday walking through Interhall. I was inspired by the textures, colors and materials that were present, and I want to explore how to incorporate these into the vehicle.”
“My experience walking around market has provided me with a renewed since of vigor for my work after seeing the designs, color and materials,” added Kokoszynsks.
“One of the major differences in home design vs. automotive design is the challenge of finding materials that meet weight, durability and flammability requirements,” said Dymowska. “The market has made me aware of the challenges that come with the discipline of automotive interiors.”
“We were flattered when Buick contacted us about this opportunity because it showed that they viewed High Point as a design and innovation center,” said Brian Casey, president of the High Point Market Authority. “Many people think of it as a buying/selling situation, but it’s really richer than that. High Point brings together a mixture of people from all over the world and establishes it as a tremendous source for design inspiration and trends.”
“What’s interesting is that in creating this vehicle, these young designers are taking cues from what people want in their homes, and Buick sees our market constituency as a key target audience,” said Casey in a press release. “After all, High Point is the cradle of design in the home furnishings sector, and the High Point Market is known around the world for having the greatest number of new product introductions every season.”
