Habersham Plantation Corporation announced its acceptance of terms of settlement from G&J Styles, Inc. and Halo Styles, LLC (the "Defendants"), resolving Habersham's copyright infringement lawsuit against the Defendants in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
Habersham had accused Defendants of manufacturing, importing and distributing unauthorized copies of fifteen of Habersham's most successful and original furniture designs, including its well-known Approach Road and Monet "Louis XV" Bibliotheque cabinets.
"We are pleased to have amicably resolved this matter, while securing substantial compensation for Defendants' unlawful behavior," stated Matt Eddy, president of Habersham. "Our original designs are exclusive to our high-end brand -- we simply cannot take anyone's copying of those designs lightly." While exact settlement numbers have not been disclosed, the settlement amount is reported to be in the seven-figures. The Defendants were also permanently enjoined from copying those designs in the future.
This lawsuit has been just one of many moves in Habersham's ongoing efforts to protect its copyrighted works and brand identity. Habersham's efforts to date have included federal registration of its copyrighted ornamental designs for furniture and the removal of unauthorized copies of its products, and infringers of its trademarks, from the listings of the online auction site eBay.
