Cheap Trick, Kool & The Gang and Robert Cray will headline the first three Stars Under the Stars concerts at the April High Point Market, according to the High Point Market Authority.

Kool & The Gang kicks off the series on the market’s opening day of Monday, April 7, with their fusion of jazz, R&B, funk and pop that led to such hits as “Celebration,” “Joanna” and “Jungle Boogie.”

Tuesday’s entertainment will be rock group Cheap Trick, whose most popular songs include “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender” and “The Flame.”

Grammy-winning blues guitarist Cray will take the stage Wednesday.

Concerts will take place at 7:30 p.m. each evening in the Showplace tent, with doors open at 7 p.m. The events are open to market attendees age 15 or older with a valid market badge and picture ID.

Brian Casey, Market Authority president and CEO, said additional entertainment, along with free food and drink, will be provided. To register to receive updates to the schedule, go to www.highpointmarket.org.

At a Market Authority board meeting Thursday, the group also outlined plans for an internship program with Bennett College, a historically black women’s college in Greensboro. The program would focus on marketing and show operations.
