The Centennial Celebration Mural, a unique work of art that captures and illustrates the memories of High Point Market guests, has been acquired by the High Point Museum for the Museum’s permanent collection.  

Commissioned by the High Point Market Authority to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the High Point Market this year, and created by Greensboro, N.C.-based artist David Stanley, the mural celebrates great moments enjoyed by Market guests over the years, as well as the entrepreneurs and innovators who created and nurtured the remarkable institution. Early Market guests enjoy live music, wine and hors d'oeuvres outside ShowPlace Friday evening.











North Carolina U.S. Senator Kay Hagan attended the showroom ribbon cutting for new N.C. manufacturer Thomas & Gray, at Market Square Suites. The company's offices are based in High Point, finishings and upholstery are in Hickory and Morganton, N.C. and the distribution center is in Conover, N.C. Thomas & Gray's launch includes a new furniture line by Tom Tilley.

Trish Rempen, president and CEO of Foreign Accents, and celebrity designer Michael Payne celebrated the first day of market and Payne’s latest rug designs for the company at a reception in the company's showroom Monday night. Payne is the original host and interior designer for HGTV's Designing for the Sexes. As the Atlanta Market kicked off Wednesday, the mood was upbeat and cautiously optimistic.

Vendors told Home Accents Today their customers are in need of restocking, so are coming to market this week ready to buy, but with very focused shopping lists.

An article in today's High Point Enterprise reports that despite fewer attendees at this week's Market, the High Point Market Authority will close its fiscal year June 30th above budget projections by $153,000, partly due to reduced spending for transportation, guest and other services brought on by state budget cuts this year.

Reporter Karen Underwood writes that in a meeting yesterday, April 29, the board of directors of the High Point Market Authority said the number of attendees this week was "significantly less this market than in the past."
