This is a bit far afield, but as the son of career 3M salesman, I couldn't resist. A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this Japanese Web site that sells nothing but masking tape.
As you can see it's not the standard kraft paper-backed stuff, either. ...Read More
3. This residence by Suppose Design Office has a serious Richard Neutra vibe both inside and out. The intersecting solid and hollow masses, creating private, semi and public exterior spaces, are a hallmark of all those marvelous mid-century homes by the likes of Neutra, Koenig and Eichler. The interior is a study in composition, as well, every line of sight considered, with materials and finishes like fine furniture.
2. What's really amazing about this freezer case with thruster rockets is the bright and airy beach house that's inside. Makoto Tanijiri lifts this house out of the long shadows of the urban landscape and into the sunlight. Special effects included.
1. This roadside bunker is, upon closer inspection, a well-considered and beautiful home. I particularly like the juxtaposition of the Brutalist concrete exterior with the calm Minimalism inside. (I wonder if I could get away with something like this in High Point?) Makoto Tanijiri is the principal of Suppose Design Office, an interdisciplinary architecture firm in Hiroshima, Japan.
With a Mid-Century Mod meets Mondrian styling, the sharp new T4 Collection from Not Neutral is constructed of Birch ply with a playful use of on-trend colors like Ozone Blue, Persimmon Orange and Lotus Green. In addition to earrings, clips and cocktail rings, statement-making cuffs and bracelets round out the initial 50 designs. Semi-precious stones such as b...Read More
Sophisticated glossy colors and the rusticity of real tree bark create a compelling “town & country” conversation in these handmade Log Bowls from Loyal Loot, an Edmonton, Alberta design collective. Designed by Doha Chebib, the bowls are one of a kind and created from a variety of species of salvaged trees. (I’m experiencing some serious objet envy, as well.)
This clever table/conceptual art piece is composed of concrete pixels. Everytime a table is made, a pixel is removed from the design of the next table.
Following this rule, the table becomes more intricate, interesting, and ultimately unworkable.
I just love this little table lamp named Emil from Berlin design studio Muskat18. If I didn’t know better, I might think it was an early 20th century design. I like the simple, hand made quality of the forms and the natural shellac finish. That the shade is repositionable is a fun touch. You can see more of Muskat18’s work here.
