MacRae Launches McAlpine Home
September 2, 2009
MacRae has debuted the McAlpine Home Collection, a line of bench-made designs by master European cabinetmakers. Designed by Southern architect Bobby McAlpine, the inital launch includes 26 elegant, and often witty, pieces (like the Directoire Dog Bed console).
Mary Prillaman Holland, the owner of MacRae, envisioned a collection that offered a nod to the past and movement toward the future, while embracing the distinctive spirit, tradition and style of the South. This vision led her to McAlpine, whose work is known for a graceful blending of tradition and modernism. With the launch, he sought to create "new antiques" in the form of timeless, inheritable designs. "The collection has definite historical reference and reverence -- and irreverence in execution," said McAlpine.
My personal favorite piece -- the lovely lines and exquisite elegance of the Grand Piano console.
I love the classic obelisk references here.
The Museum Crate console transitions from rustic to sophisticated with ease.
