A Few Good Books

October 17, 2008

This shelf, Juxtaposed: Religion,
was designed by the creative team Mike&Maaike. 5,360 pages, 7 books, and 1 shelf covering some 3,700 years of humanity’s quest for… well, quest for something. The world's most influential religious texts are brought together and presented on the same level -- literally. Made from reclaimed hardwood, each bookshelf comes with the Bhagavad Gita, the Bible, the Qur’an, The Analects by Confucious, the Tao Te Ching, the Middle Length Discourses of the Buddha, and the Torah. Well, I might argue that some of those aren't actually religions as such, but that's beside the point; I love this piece. Created as a limited edition of 50 and priced at $2,499, they are unfortunately (though not surprisingly) sold out. Damn.
