One Good Chair Award Goes To Three Finalists
September 17, 2009
Sometimes indecision turns out to be a good thing. In this case three designers profited, as the jury in this year’s One Good Chair competition at The Las Vegas Market decided not to decide which one was the best and awarded a portion of the prize to all three. The winners are:

Azul Cadenas for his Bamtak chair. To translate a local custom into an urban model was the goal that inspired the this chair. In the countryside of Argentina, there is a tradition of outdoor entertaining, whiling the hours away nestled in chaise lounges. The Bamtak chair is the urban answer to the traditional chaise. An armchair in its original form, it opens to chaise length. It’s constructed of locally harvested bamboo.
Helene Cany for her Sediliegi2 chair. A lounge chair for two, the Sediliegi2 chair takes inspiration from the Turin-built Italian autos, Fiat and Ferrari. It’s molded of locally sourced Italian cork.

Andrej Blazon for his Charity chair. Inspired by the cornette worn by The Daughters of Charity, Blazon’s premise was the ability of the chair to be produced locally, from various materials, and sustainably. It consists of a single flat rectangular sheet of material bent and locked into position by means of cut slits and flaps -- no hardware required.
