Abundance

June 3, 2008

        Jo Davidson

Many people are experiencing tough times right now. My wife and I would like more business.  It is not as easy this year versus the last couple of years.  From our training in Landmark many years ago, we practice the mantra we learned that opens us to all the solutions that are present in the universe, much like changing a radio station opens us to jazz or country, pop or talk radio.

My mantra: Who I am, is the possibility of abundance, health and joy.  Bev’s has been for many years: Who I am, is the possibility of greatness.  Recently, at my urging, she changed it to:  Who I am, is the possibility of greatness and abundance.  More and more it seemed to us that opening ourselves to the abundance that is in the universe is more effective than worry about shortage or failure.

I have a list of the Home Accents Today 2008 50 Retail Stars and since I received it, I have wanted to go online and look at each of the 50’s websites.  I wanted to see how how many stores they operate, sales volume, online store or not, and whether they have a blog.  Today, I was a little put out with Inside Furniture’s Ivan Saul Cutler, because he wrote another column on McCreery's Home Furnishings.  (I have quoted his column several times and invited him to be a regular reader of this blog and The Landfair Furniture (|Blog), but he has never posted about anything I've written.)

Saul writes that McCreery's Home Furnishings has a blog, Sacramento Furnishings Blog!  It appears that the blog was started on Sunday 04 May 2008.  I support the use of blogs as an adjunct to marketing, so I finally had the impetus to look at the 50 websites.

Here are the results of my search: eight (8) of the 50 have no website and only three (3) have blogs, one of which stopped blogging July 31, 2007.  The two companies that have blogs are Richard Cable Interiors (the blog is Richard Cable Interiors Blog)  and The Blissful ( the blog is called Lettres from The Blissful). The Richard Cable Interiors Blog just started and has just one post.  The Lettres from The Blissful has been blogging since September, 2007.

Now here’s why I started this whole post about abundance:  On May 22, Abbey Kerr, owner of The Blissful, posted about Fragile Tough Girl with a haunting picture.  A customer gave her a credit card with the name Jo Davidson on it.
I looked at her and said, "Fragile Tough Girl. Isn't that a song?" She looked at me and said, "Yes. How do you know that song?" I looked at her name again, put two and two together, and said, "Are you THE Jo Davidson?" She said yes and I hooted and said, "I just have to hug you!" Turns out her parents live in the area and she's in town visiting them.

Several years ago when I was in grad school, I discovered Jo Davidson's music on my daily hour and a half round trip commute to campus. I fell in love with her song "Kiss Me There" on my first listen and downloaded it to my Napster immediately. Then I discovered "Fragile Tough Girl" and "I Don't Dance" (which we have in our mix at the shop). I was hooked. After all these years, those songs remain in my iTunes list, even through periodic clean-outs of songs I'm sick of. There's just something about her voice and her lyrics, especially, that speak to me. Today, she's the host of Zentertainment Talk Radio.

I clicked on Zentertainment Talk Radio hoping to hear the music for myself, but instead I clicked on Hear the Show! The banner says “Discovering Life’s Possibilities” and a list of all the guests on her show and the topics.  Number 28 is titled The Alchemy of Abundance (click on the link to hear Rick Jarow talk about his book).

Jarow urges listeners and readers to practice abundance by  being quiet and pull up an image of abundance and “think of a time you were clicking on all cylinders”.  Feel the energy, open your hands inviting the energy in and ask yourself, with this abundance:
What would I do now?
Where would I go?
Who would I be with?

So much of what we learned in Landmark Education speaks to manifesting ourselves in our daily lives.  We create exactly what we want. If we are not happy with our manifestation, we can create another.  To help us in that manifestation process, Jarow recommends looking at your community.  He says we need the mirror of others.  We want to ask ourselves who inspires us?  And finally this requires action, how much time are you willing to ”GIFT” to yourself to accomplish this manifestation?

BTW, Mr. Cutler, The Landfair Furniture (Blog)’s first post was March 19, 2005.  As far as I know, one of the first furniture stores in the country to use a blog as part of a diversified marketing program!

I welcome your comments.  Email them to me at landfair3554@comcast.net.
