Nothing Like A Good Ceiling Fan
January 18, 2008

Up until a couple of years ago when the middle of the summer brought high heat, days in the upper 90s or even a 100 degree day, I would grudgingly haul the air conditioner up from storage in the basement to our bedroom.  Bev and I would wrestle it into the window frame, fix the side panels and pull down the window that held the machine in place.

I was always fearful that I would tip it too far and down it would go to the ground, effectively killing the air conditioner.  Then in the late fall, when cold air began to seep around the edges and into the room, I would reverse the process and haul the thing back to the basement.  Usually it was filled with water and I would get drenched from the waist down.

That changed when we took out the overhead light and installed a ceiling fan.  The fan has four blades and three speeds.  It reminds me of those fans you see in Moroccan restaurants or the movie Casablanca.  The past two years when the days reached 80 degrees, we just turned on the fan and we were instantly cool.  I am told we even saved energy.

Today, Samuel Mascarell sent an email about a new fan design called the Brisa 2000 Ceiling Fan.  He writes, “The usual, standard, and conventional is quickly becoming outdated and out of style.  Luckily, the Matthews Fan Company has provided stylish ceiling fans for the home or office that is sure to stay a hit for years to come.
Resembling orbiting bodies, the Brisa 2000 has three components; the central component, the fan itself, and the counter balance.

It sure beats the portable air conditioner!

Hi, I saw two room dividers both with leaf patterns in one of Samuel Mascarell's online Home Decorating Review and would like to know where to find these. I really should be bothering Samuel, but can't find his e-mail and it seems like you might have it or if you don't, you know a lot about design and decorating and could possibly help me out. thanks, Ferh Sussman
