Sex And The City

July 9, 2008 I was floored when I went with Beverly to see “Sex and the City.” Normally, we see moviegoers dressed in their Northwest-grundge outfits; jeans, tennis shoes or hiking shoes, t-shirts over t-shirts, untucked shirts, and baseball caps.  As the weather warms we see flip flops and tank tops.  The theatergoers at “SATC” were over 99% women in heels and short skirts.  They came with their girl friends, set to have a great time.  Being a guy, my head was on a swivel.  Never have I seen so many great looking women in one place.  Guys you don’t know what you missed.  I was one of four guys, total, in the place.

We have a friend that so far has seen the movie four times and will soon own the DVD.  There is a book out about the movie that gives you behind the scenes dish.  Did you know that a particular jacket was flown in so Carrie could wear it once in a scene and then the jacket was flown back to Italy?   Did you know that all the wedding dresses were an actual Vogue shoot?

Now, if you haven’t enough yet, you can bring “SATC” home.  Jenifer D. Braun writes in the Star-Ledger that there are web sites that help you capture that movie look for your home.  She’s found stores that offer products similar to those seen in the movie

Traditional Home magazine has a spread on Carrie’s apartment in “Set design for the big-screen Sex and the City” in the July issue.

Braun wrote,
The bright blue wall color, for example, is certainly a change from Carrie's old digs that were mostly a blah sage-and-tan combo. Production designer Jeremy Conway told Casasugar.com he custom mixes all the paint colors, but he said Benjamin Moore's Electric Blue (No. 2061-40, $45 a gallon) is as close as it comes to his mix. (Conway also was the original production designer for the HBO series.)
Elements of Style has before and after shots of Carrie’s closet, the one that Big redecorated for her.
Sex and the City, the movie and HBO series turns out to have been quite a cultural event and for some time has launched a number of fashions.
