In-Store Music: Profiting from the perfect music mix (Part 1)March 6, 2007When you’re in the business of selling a lifestyle, music can play a big role in developing a brand, creating a mood and attracting certain customers. Paul Thompson, VP of merchandising for OneCoast, begins his retailer merchandising seminars with the topic, stressing the importance of the music mix. “It’s like picking a color – there are different tones and beats that work better at different times of the day, and different levels and variations that will appeal to different customers.”

In response to: In-Store Music: Profiting from the perfect music mix (Part 1) Charles Kennedy commented: Hi Tammy...thanks for remembering!!....I always thought "make the bottom and the top go away (in my time carpet and ceiling dark)...and play relaxing music (no vocals...I do not want the client distracted)...create dramatic displays...well lit with spots...and let everyone enjoy the magic of the wonderful merchdise" ( oh ya...call Starbucks in Seattle ( the only place you could purchase the coffee for many years) and order coffee to serve at market ( with the wonderful lunches).ps...you have to totally remerchandise EVERY market...not just for the customers...but for the sales staff...excitement is contagious!

In response to: In-Store Music: Profiting from the perfect music mix (Part 1) s spencer commented: $30,000 per song is a lot. I had no idea. I hope a lot of small business owners are aware of this as the music industry has been cracking down on illegal music use in the past couple of years.
