Jamestown, N.C. -- Furnitureland South is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this month. Founded in 1969 by Darrell Harris, the retailer has grown from a one-man operation to 1.3 million square feet of showroom space, a climate-controlled distribution center and a sales force of more than 150. In honor of its 40th year, the company is offering special discounts during November and December, and holding a dining table giveaway. Clawson, Mich. - Leon & Lulu kicked off a month-long furniture drive Nov. 6th with its second annual Fall Furniture Harvest, a launch party co-sponsored by Company C. During the month of November, gently-used furniture and households goods may be dropped off at a 42-foot trailer parked behind the store and all donated items will be given to the Furniture Bank. Each year, the Furniture Bank serves over 5,000 families in Oakland County and Macomb County by recycling furniture to those in need. Also, Leon & Lulu will hold its second Artists' Market on Sunday, Nov. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 1. Coinciding with World AIDS Day on December 1st, the event will benefit Cass Community Services and Cass House to support their outreach to homeless men living with HIV/AIDS and to increase HIV education and prevention amongst the city's homeless population.Visit www.leonandlulu.com/artistsmarket for details. Pittsboro, N.C., NOV. 17: Vietri at Fearrington will host painter Alessandro Taddei and Vietri founder Susan Gravely for a special Italian Holidays event from 4-7 pm. The artist will demonstrate painting techniques and sign purchased pieces (Taddei is the creator of Vietri’s Old St. Nick holiday collection) as VIETRI Founder Susan Gravely speaks about Italy’s holiday season and traditions. Dallas, DEC. 4-5: Antèks Home Furnishings is hosting a Shiprock Santa
Fe trunk show Dec. 4-5. Jed Foutz, owner of Shiprock Gallery, along with Santa Fe gallery director Jamie Way, will be at Antèks showcasing vintage Navajo blankets and rugs as well as a selection of historic and contemporary jewelry from the Shiprock Santa Fe collection. Also on hand will be Jonathan Batkin, director of the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian. Cocktails and public preview scheduled for Dec. 4, 6-8 pm. The public is encouraged to bring art, artifacts and rugs to be appraised during the event Dec. 5, noon to 5 pm. Antèks Home Furnishings is located at 1135 Dragon Street in the Dallas Design District.
Brecksville, Ohio, NOV. 13: Leopold’s Furniture kicks off its 150-year anniversary celebration. After cabinetmaker Henry Leopold came to the U.S. from Germany and founded the business in 1859, Leopold’s began building hand-crafted furniture, along with caskets during the Civil War. Since that time, the family has owned five stores, mainly on Cleveland’s west side. The current store, at 8147 Brecksville Rd., opened in 1973. Mark Lutz and Todd Leopold, both great-great grandsons of Henry Leopold, currently run the business. Today, Leopold’s carries middle- to high-end furniture, lamps, wall décor, rugs and home accents. San Francisco, NOV. 14-15: Zinc Details will host a Trunk Show showcasing talents from Israel (eLoo Designs) and Sweden (From Sthlm) from 12 pm to 6 pm both days. Included in the show will be the retro-inspired collection of Lotta Kühlhorn, a whimsical assortment of ceramic plates by graphic designer Lisa Bengtsson, craft kits from Fuldesign, the bold patterned bags of 10 Swedish Designers, and ceramics in the shapes of birds and flowers from Camilla Engdahl.
