In Atlanta: The World's Largest Sock Monkey
This afternoon, Lindsey Strader and I had the double pleasure of striking a pose with Super Sammy*, the world’s largest sock monkey, AND Rick Contino, president of Midwest/Seasons of Cannon Falls, here in the company’s Atlanta showroom on the 16th floor of the Merchandise Mart (Bldg. 1). In addition to the sock monkey line of kids decor, toys and collectibles, Midwest is also showing more than 250 new candleholders (including the vignette photo’ed at left – the crystals, blacks and moody blues of the Nocturne collection) which fit the various sized-candles in the company’s famous
Colonial Candles brand. Also popular this market, their very realistic GLO wax flameless candles in an extensive variety of styles.
*Super Sammy is eight feet tall and weighs 73 pounds. It took a specialist in life-size fabric creations more than one month to bring Sammy to life. Super Sammy was created to help kick off Seasons of Cannon Falls’ new Genuine Monkeez collection, featuring more than 80 best-sellers and new sock monkey plush, gifts, and home décor including new striped sock monkeys, clothing sets for the monkeys, magnetized accessories, clock, wall hooks, wall decals, signs, drawer pulls, containers, rug, pillows, lanterns, knapsack, book marks, coin purses, goody bags, juggling balls, cell phone carriers, bank, bobble head, mug, plate and cup set, magnets, and ornaments.
“Independent retailers have made our Genuine Monkeez plush sock monkeys a blockbuster hit, so thanks to their ability to sell through and high demand from our customers, we’ve created more than 60 fun, new designs at excellent price points to combat the current economic pressures that everyone is facing,” Contino said. “And, we created Super Sammy to help kick off the new collection in a larger-than-life way, and help bring humor and fun to retailers during the winter markets.”
Super Sammy will also be on display in Midwest showrooms during the Dallas, New York and Las Vegas winter gift and home décor markets, as well as the New York Trim and Toy Show in February 2009.
