Barclay Butera donates $31K to C.A.N.; Awarded IFDA Circle of Excellence

November 26, 2007

Los AngelesBarclay Butera donated $31,000 to Children’s Action Network (C.A.N.) last month for their continued work with foster care in the U.S. Celebrating the 4th anniversary of the lifestyle designer’s Los Angeles showroom, ELLE DECOR magazine sponsored the event, which featured Hollywood’s favorite chanteuse, Morganne, performing throughout the evening in the 7,500 sq. ft., two-story location designed to the hilt with many new design offerings. Butera auctioned off his personal, redesigned Airstream trailer on eBay recently, with all the proceeds going toward the donation. The event drew over 450 attendees from the worlds of fashion, design, entertainment and the arts. Actress Kim Delaney attended with Children’s Action Network Director Jennifer Perry (Delaney and Perry are pictured with Butera at left), who accepted the check on behalf of C.A.N. Delaney is a longtime supporter of the organization that was founded by families in the entertainment industry, including Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg, and Stacey and Henry Winkler. C.A.N. uses the power of the entertainment community to increase awareness about children’s issues and to make them a top priority in everyday life. C.A.N. is currently dedicated to raising awareness about and finding homes for the more than 114,000 children in foster care in the United States who are waiting for an adoptive family and improving outcomes for the more than 500,000 children in foster care. In the photo at right, Butera is joined by Perry, Debra Peri (ELLE DECOR) and Joanne Medeiros (Medeiros & Assoc.).

In November, Butera was awarded the IFDA Circle of Excellence award for Interior Design by the New York chapter. The theme was “Visionaries: Past, Present and Future,” and fellow ‘visionaries’ included Deborah Needleman, Editor of Domino; Karim Rashid; and Inge Heckel, president of the New York School of Design. Butera’s current work includes the makeover of the historic L’Auberge del Mar in Del Mar, CA, bringing a fresh sensibility to this hotel by the famous Southern California racetrack. He is also one of 17 designers featured in Assouline Publishing’s new Inspired Styles coffee-table book, which features designers with licensed collections for Kravet or Lee Jofa. Butera has an exclusive agreement with the Kravet Collections, a division of Kravet Inc., to develop a line of textiles and trims to be released in late 2008.
