HW Home cyclists seek donations to fund Colo. Children's Hospital endowment

August 8, 2012
The HW Home GirlsThe HW Home Girls cycling team is pedaling beyond the finish line to see if they can raise enough funds to fund a $50K endowment for the Children's Hospital of Colorado.

Colorado-based retailer HW Home's cycling team, the "HW Home Girls," has raised more than $20,000 for this year's Courage Classic, benefitting the Children's Hospital of Colorado. The team is accepting donations through August 31, 2012, in pursuit of their goal to raise enough funds to establish a $50,000 endowment for the hospital.

This marks the fourth year that HW Home, owned by Ron Werner and Jim Hering, has sponsored a team for the event, now in its 23rd year. More than 2,000 cyclists braved the 3-day, 157-mile ride that took place July 21-23 and challenged riders of every age, shape and cycling level with strenuous mountain passes.

Funds raised support the hospital's Children's Fund, which helps improve the care offered to each child, and the Hospital Sports Program, which helps physically disabled patients experience freedom through activities like skiing, snowboarding, fishing and cycling.

The HW Home Girls are captained by Boulder Store Manager Bev Needham, whose daughter is a nurse at Children's Hospital. Needham has ridden in the event for 21 years.

HW Home's team is accepting donations through August 31, 2012, in the hopes of creating a $50,000 endowment for the hospital. Since the cycling event, they've raised an additional $4,000 toward that goal.

Donations may be made directly to team captain Bev Needham by clicking the "Donate to My Ride" button at www.couragetours.com/2012/bevwernerneedham.
