IKEA Opening in the Carolinas

January 13, 2009

The Swedish home-furnishings giant Ikea will open its 350,000-sq.-ft. store in Charlotte February 18 at 9 am.Everybody’s favorite big-box retailer is coming to the Carolinas next month. The Swedish home-furnishings giant Ikea will open its 350,000-sq.-ft. store in Charlotte February 18 at 9 am.

Ikea will stock nearly 10,000 exclusive items, and feature three model-home interiors, 49 room vignettes, a kiddy play area and a huge restaurant serving, what else? Swedish specialties. (Lingonberries, anyone?)

“We made excellent progress on construction in the summer and fall, so we are thrilled, yet confident, the remaining construction milestones and interior build-up process will be complete by February – much earlier than originally envisioned,” noted Richard Castanon, store manager of the future IKEA Charlotte.

The store is located in the University City area, at I-85 and City Boulevard.

Home Accents Today retail editor Susan Dickenson and I will be on hand to cover the festivities. And there’s nothing I like better than spending the day with Sven – I mean Susan!
