We’re Out of SprayMount!

I thought about the lack of physical evidence of my toil the other day when I asked about buying the old oak flat files from the production department. In this day what could they possibly use those drawers for – this office hasn’t seen negs and progs for 5 years now. Just as Khoi Vinh relates in the article below, sometimes I miss all the cool tools of the trade a graphic designer used (I know rubber cement thinner is deadly but it still smells like love.) In the day, I always grew fond of a specific Exacto or pica ruler and you better keep your hands off! I still have a lot of that stuff at home, tucked away in a dusty tackle box, waiting for the day the power goes out for good.

I agree with most of what I read here. But I have the fact that almos 99% of the grid based layouts that I meet have no fluid-ness. I mean, OK, there has to be some part of the grid that might use the extra space that these grids leave out. Not eyrveone has a screen 1024px wide. Not any more! For instance in the case of the website of a newspaper the space where the article or the main pages most significant article goes could very well be fluid and use up the empty screen space. Why do I never see that? Beats me
