The Resort Effect And Outdoor Lighting

The hottest trend in the home is outdoor living.
The ideal outdoor room takes the comforts of the house’s interior to a nearby outdoor space, usually one that is attached to the house. This means plush furniture upholstered in weather-resistant fabric, a cooking area or heat source and a covering, such as a canopy, to keep the rain out.
Deborah Krasner, whose recent book, "The New Outdoor Kitchen," labels this trend as the "Resort Effect."
CEO Marcus Scrudder for Craftmade, a Texas company that manufactures specialty lighting fixtures, ceiling fans and home decorative items, speaking at Tulane University, said outdoor lamps are becoming important as consumers take outdoor living to the next level.
I written many posts at Landfair Furniture (Blog) about the resort effect. I’ve posted about outdoor furniture and its care, outdoor entertaining, gardening to enhance the deck, outdoor wall art, even outdoor lamps from Frederick Cooper, but it’s never sunk in that I could have a lamp outside, until now.
I like to read on the deck. And as the evening draws to a close, there comes a cooling breeze that gently ruffles the wind chime, mothers are heard calling their children to come in and murmuring conversations float from neighbor’s back decks. All in all, a very pleasent time, until it gets dark and I have to reluctantly put my book down.
When we entertain, we light candles or Tiki torches. We had a string of lights that went down the fence and around the gazebo, but the squirrels ate through the wires. Now with a lamp, I can continue my reading or even get up in the stiffeling night, go out on the deck rejoin the adventure of my latest Michael Connelly or John Grisham.
What a wonderful invention the light bulb! Why didn’t I think of the lamp before?
