One of the most comprehensive ceramic collections in the world with 3000 objects on display, the new galleries tell the story of world ceramics from the earliest Chinese pottery to contemporary ceramic art. Kelly Wearstler Dinnerware Debuts from PickardSeptember 28, 2009 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0) ![]() Interior designer Kelly Wearstler lends her signature glamorous style to a new collection of fine china from Pickard. While the patterns are bold, each design is delicately rendered in a mix of soft metallics that infuse elegance without overpowering. All pieces are sold individually, allowing for the mixing and matching of complementary patterns. Among the highlights are Pickfair's abstracted chevron motif and a confetti-like sprinkling of dots on Trousdale, bringing both modern and delightfully vintage flair to the table. ![]() ![]() Industries: People, Styles & Trends, Tabletop Recent Posts
This Little Piggy Stayed HomeSeptember 11, 2009 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0) ![]() We've been spotting lots of animals of late, mostly the barnyard variety like horses, chickens, cows and pigs. While farm livestock may not be what first springs to mind when you think of design, the overall effect is delightfully charming and entirely captivating. Here's my favorite little pig to date: the Piggy steamer from Marna releases steam through the pig's snout, allowing the ingredients to cook evenly. Pretty cool, huh? MacRae Launches McAlpine HomeSeptember 2, 2009 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0) ![]() MacRae has debuted the McAlpine Home Collection, a line of bench-made designs by master European cabinetmakers. Designed by Southern architect Bobby McAlpine, the inital launch includes 26 elegant, and often witty, pieces (like the Directoire Dog Bed console). Mary Prillaman Holland, the owner of MacRae, envisioned a collection that offered a nod to the past and movement toward the future, while embracing the distinctive spirit, tradition and style of the South. This vision led her to McAlpine, whose work is known for a graceful blending of tradition and modernism. With the launch, he sought to create "new antiques" in the form of timeless, inheritable designs....Read More Industries: Accent Furniture, New Products, Styles & Trends Recent Posts
Slice of LifeAugust 14, 2009 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0) ![]() I've been intrigued by these colorful "slices" from zigzign by Lene Frantzen since spotting them a few years back at ICFF. Handmade of 100% virgin wool in Denmark, each design is rolled up and subsequently sliced -- thus resembling the rings of a tree-trunk (albeit a fantastical one). What's even more unique is that each piece is art but also is supremely functional even down to the mundane. For example, the table slice is one of the edgiest hot pads I've ever seen. Modern, but incredibly durable. Here, the three newest additions to the slice universe. Think I'll take mine to go. ...Read More Industries: Current, Design Today, Styles & Trends
