Allan Copley Designs featured in Bloomingdale's 2010 Window Challenge

Allan Copley Designs announced that two of its designs were featured in the Bloomingdale’s 2010 Window Challenge – the Snowmass bookcase and the Excel coffee table, both of which are sold in Bloomingdale’s stores. The challenge recently took place in the flagship New Allan Copley Excel coffee table, Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan for Apartment TherapyYork City store, and involved interior designers from Bloomingdale’s, Apartment Therapy, and Elle Décor. Each designer created a model living space to be displayed in the store’s windows using Bloomingdale’s furniture.

Today, from 2-3 p.m., 7W New York is hosting a Designer Day event at the Arc7 W New Yorkhitectural Digest Home Design Show as part of the citywide New York Design Festival. Robyn Waters, a consumer trend and tracking expert, will present The Power of Paradox on Center Stage at Pier 94 (12th Ave. and 55th St.). Target’s former vice president of trend, design and product development, Waters will give attendees an overview of today’s “contradictory” consumer by exploring influential trends and countertrends. This year's Pinnacle awards includes new design award

The best sustainable furnishings design entry submitted in this year's Pinnacle awards competition will be honored with the Green Leaf, a new award from The American Society of Furniture Designers. 

One winner will be chosen for the Green Leaf among three finalists. Entries for the sustainable award may be in any of the 15 product categories recognized in the Pinnacle competition.

"We believe that the addition of the green award is a natural and logical extension to the Pinnacle Awards and of what we think good design can represent," said Dudley Moore, furniture designer and Pinnacle chair.

Vipp binn, updated and original

Holger Nielsen's original Vipp wastebin from 1939 has been added to the Museum of Modern Art’s Architecture and Design collection in New York.

“Good design never goes out of fashion," Nielsen used to say, and time would prove him right. The Vipp bin has changed little in design and materials since it was crafted in 1939 in Holger’s workshop in Denmark. Both the original and the updated version are now part of MoMA’s collection.
