Pacific Market Center has announced several of its key speakers for the 2009 Seattle Market Week: Winter Gift & Home Accessories Show. All of the following programs will take place on the second floor in the Learning Forum, each starting at 9 a.m. with coffee and pastries served a half hour beforehand.
Leatrice (Lee) Eiseman, Color Consultant, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute and Founder of the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, Wed., Jan. 21. Eiseman’s seminar, Reinventing Color and Style: The Major Trends, will discuss making thoughtful purchases, eco-awareness, and other major trends including the colors and styles that can regenerate sales. Eiseman is the author of seven books on color, including her two most recent More Alive with Color and Color: Messages & Meanings, a Pantone Color Resource, which won an award from Create Magazine. Additionally, Fortune Magazine named Eiseman one of the top decision makers in business for her work in color.
Jenny Heinzen York, editor in chief of Home Accents Today and Meredith Schwartz, Business Editor of Gifts & Decorative Accessories, with a panel of retailers from around the country, Thurs., Jan. 22. Their seminar, How to Market Your Store to Get More Press, More Customers, and More Success, will focus on how to leverage the knowledge of industry-leading editors and savvy retailers to learn the basics of writing a press release, sharing the secrets only journalists know, along with how to find the right person at a magazine or newspaper to target. Additionally, they will discuss their secrets to perfecting the art of public relations and communication from an insider’s point of view. York has been with the Furniture Today/Home Accents Today family of publications for 12 years where she has covered accessories, home furnishings, home office furniture and baby and kids products with an eye towards trends in both products and business. Schwartz is responsible for covering the economic, demographic and technology trends in Gifts & Decorative Accessories’ Business Forum, reporting breaking news in the e-newsletter and maintaining the Virtual Merchant Today blog.
Jim Sinegal, co-founder, president and CEO of Costco Wholesale Corporation, Fri., Jan. 23. Sinegal’s seminar, Inside Costco and the New World of Retail, will discuss how Costco has changed the face of retail and exceeded sales expectations while keeping employees and customers satisfied. Founded in Seattle in 1983, with $71 billion in revenue last year, Costco is the seventh largest retailer in the world with 543 warehouse club operations in eight countries, 142,000 employees and 51.8 million cardholders. Sinegal has more than 40 years of merchandising and operations experience in the retail mass merchandising field.
Chris Nielsen, vice president of Seattle-based Amazon.com’s Home & Garden store, Mon., Jan. 26. Nielsen’s seminar, Amazon@Home, will reveal how Amazon.com helps its clients reach sales goals and improve their visibility in the marketplace. He will also discuss top trends for 2009, offer insights from the Home & Garden space, and discuss improvements to the Amazon.com Web site, developments in Amazon’s community experience and how customers learn and discover through interactive features. Nielsen was appointed vice president of Amazon.com Home & Garden in 2006. He is responsible for Amazon.com’s merchandising, marketing and customer service for all Home & Garden categories.
